چکیده

The modeling and computation of patent citations data provides an exciting opportunity to examine the links among inventions and inventors, over time, space, technology, and institutions. So far, a number of scientometric and econometric models, which deal with number of patents and use count data model, are introduced to analyze the relationship among that number of patents (research output) and other research inputs such as R&D investment. However, models dealing with the relationship among patent citation counts and other patent characteristics are rare. Jaffe and Trajtenberg (2002), in their book of well-selected papers regarding patent citation, addressed a number of issues related to patent citation. They handled and modeled aggregated US patent citation data. Therefore in macro view they could find meaningful trend and policy implication, for example, geographic localization of knowledge spillover and citation trend differences among R&D fields. However, studies addressing more micro and specified issues related to patent citation are needed.

Measuring knowledge flows among European and American multinationals: a patent citation analysis

The internationalisation of R&D has been driven by a myriad of factors, the most prevalent of which are the need to respond to different demand and market conditions across locations, by adapting their existing product and process technologies through foreign-located ‘home-base exploiting’ (HBE) R&D. However, over the last decade there is a growing significance of overseas R&D in order to augme...

On the Failure of University - Industry Research Collaboration to Stimulate High Quality Research in Japan

Using a panel of 30 Japanese chemical and pharmaceutical companies for the period of 1985 to 1998, we estimate the effects of university-industry research collaboration (UIC) on participating firms’ research output. We find, as in other studies in the field, that UIC leads to more research output, in terms of the number of patents obtained. In contrast to the results for the U.S., however, we f...
